Meet the Captain & Crew

A Message from the Founder, Becky

Ever been home alone with your kids and wondered: "If I choked on my own food right now, would my child know what to do?" As a mom of two living in Sykesville, I taught my own children, ages 6 and 8, the basics of CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. They were eager to learn how to help in an emergency, but when I set out to formally enroll them in a CPR class, I hit a snag. Most programs wouldn't accept them because of their age; traditional classes typically wait until children are 12 or 13 to start teaching these life-saving skills.

As a Clinical Nurse Leader and Educator, I knew we didn’t have to wait. We see it in the news every year: children saving lives in school cafeterias or at home because they knew exactly how to react. While a younger child may not yet have the full physical strength of an adult, they are more than capable of recognizing an emergency, staying calm, and taking the right steps to get help.

Rescue skills like CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver can, and should, be introduced early. My mission is to lay a foundation of safety in a way that is adventurous, non-scary, and grows with your child.

I don’t just sail these seas; I’ve spent my career navigating the complex world of healthcare. I have a Master's Degree in Nursing, am a Clinical Nurse Leader and earned my Registered Nurse License in 2011.

Before launching this voyage, I served in Nursing Education at a local Maryland hospital, where I spent years teaching CPR to professionals. Today, I am Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified, Safe Sitter certified, and have completed training with the Special Olympics: Inclusive Health Fundamentals & Giffin's Sensory Strategies hold to ensure our "fleet" receives the highest quality of inclusive instruction.

While our classes are filled with pirate treasure and mermaid magic, every skill taught is based on the current guidelines of the American Heart Association.

When I’m not at a "Port of Call" teaching, you can find me exploring Carroll County with my husband and our two favorite deckhands.
